Hi, I’m Lorraine!
I’m a designer and researcher with a passion for creating applications that are fun, intuitive, and meaningful.
Since I was young, I’ve always wanted to use my art to help people. I grew up on action-adventure platformers and role-playing games that instilled a sense of adventure and ambition in me. While experimenting with making my own media like a fantasy novel, cosplay, or online webcomic, I found that the more real and immersive I can make my experiences, the more I can communicate with my audience. I decided the best way to cultivate my inner hero would be to combine my technical and creative skills for my career path.
I graduated in May with my Ph.D. in Human-Centered Computing at Clemson University. During my time there, I enjoyed designing research applications on virtual reality (VR) avatar appearances. I made a customization menu in Unity for a learning application, then published and presented findings showing that allowing students ability to customize characters improves their learning. I also designed two applications observing the virtual hand illusion, and published and presented research showing that when able to directly compare VR avatars, people feel differing levels of ownership for avatars with distinct render styles and realism.
I enjoy all aspects of design and prototyping, but my favorite part would have to be seeing clients enjoying the applications I've made. In my study on character customization, it meant a lot to me to see the students comparing the characters, outfits, and hairstyles I built for them, and giving personalities to their new dancing avatars.
In the newest chapter of my quest, I’m seeking to create commercial products and deliver my work to a wider audience. I bring an excitement to learn new knowledge quickly and independently, experience collaborating in fast-paced, ever-changing team environments, and an innate drive to trailblaze turning concepts into reality.
Let’s connect, and change the world together!
